This is the 31st movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to Captain Marvel (2019), a continuation of the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel (2022), and the 31st film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (MCU). Brie Larson plays Carol Danvers, Iman Vellani plays Kamala Khan, and Teyonah Parris plays Monica Rambeau in the film directed by Nia DaCosta and based on a storey by Megan McDonnell.

Marvel Studios confirmed plans to make a Captain Marvel sequel in July 2019, and filming began in January 2020, with McDonnell joining the cast and Larson anticipated to return. In August of that year, DaCosta was hired, while Vellani and Parris were cast in December. The Marvels was confirmed as the title in early May, and filming on the second unit began in New Jersey in mid-April 2021. Principal photography began in August 2021 at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and Tropea, Italy. Los Angeles and New Jersey will be impacted as well.
