morbius 2022 release date cast trailer

Morbius is a forthcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Morbius, the Living Vampire, which will be released by Columbia Pictures in collaboration with Marvel. It is the third instalment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, and it stars Jared Leto as Michael Morbius with Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. It is directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Following the eponymous character as he attempts to cure himself of a rare blood illness, the film follows him as he transforms into a vampire.

Sony started creating a movie based on Morbius after revealing ideas for a new shared world of Spider-Man movies, starting with Venom (2018). During November 2017, Sazama and Sharpless had created a story, and Leto and Espinosa had formally joined in June 2018. Work on the film began in earnest towards the end of the year, with more casting taking place ahead of the commencement of filming in London in February 2019. During June 2019, it was revealed that movies will be done.

Morbius 2022 Production:

In May 2000, Artisan Entertainment and Marvel Entertainment announced an agreement to co-produce, fund, and distribute a number of films based on Marvel Comics characters, including Morbius, the Living Vampire. Previously, the character was planned to make a cameo appearance in Blade (1998), directed by Stephen Norrington, ahead of a greater part in a sequel. However, due to Norrington’s decision not to return for Blade II (2002), the character was deleted from the first film and was not presented in the sequel. Sony revealed plans for a new shared universe containing Spider-Man-related assets in May 2017, with Venom launching in October 2018; the project was eventually dubbed “Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.”In July, Jon Watts, the director of Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), indicated interest in including Morbius and Blade in the then-untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), acknowledging that the character’s gloomy tone may work well in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).Burk Sharpless   and  Matt Sazama presented a script for a Morbius feature in November. Jared Leto got “loosely linked” to the part of the titular character, but he would not commit to the project until he was satisfied with the direction; Leto requested to meet with multiple director candidates in person.

Sony has approached Antoine Fuqua about directing the picture at the end of April 2018. He indicated interest in working on the project and stated that if he were to produce a superhero picture, he would want it to be “closer to what I get excited about.” He finally decided against taking on the assignment. F. Gary Gray, who explored directing the picture but eventually declined the assignment, and Daniel Espinosa, who previously helmed Life (2017) for Sony, were among the directors approached about the project. Leto met with Espinosa in May while on tour with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars in Germany, and the two were both confirmed for the project by the end of June. Sony was anticipated to give the picture a release date soon after, with production slated to begin by the end of 2018. Matt Tolmach,Lucas Foster and Avi Arad  were selected to produce, and Sony was supposed to give the movie an opening date soon after. The studio believed that the film would fit well with the rest of their Marvel schedule, which already included Venom and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

By the end of September, Sony had announced that the picture will be shot in Atlanta, Georgia—the same city where Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom were shot—but no release date had been confirmed. In early October, Screen Rant’s Cooper Hood speculated that Sony was likely waiting to see how Venom did, with Arad noting at the time that Sony was excited to create Morbius, particularly because of the concept of a “healer who turns a killer, and how do you deal with [that]?” Tolmach stated at the time that the movie was “quite far along” and that production will begin in early 2019, with Morbius set to be the second picture produced as part of Sony’s shared universe following Venom.Leto was bringing the same “passion” to the picture that he had to playing the Joker in Suicide Squad, according to him (2016). During November, box office experts thought Venom was already successful enough for Sony to move forward with additional projects like Morbius, and at the end of month, the company set a July 10, 2020, launch date for an untitled Marvel picture that was rumoured to be Morbius. In December, Adria Arjona began discussions to play Martine Bancroft, the film’s female protagonist; her involvement was confirmed a month later when Sony moved the release date to July 31, and Matt Smith joined the cast.

Morbius 2022 Filming:

The movie’s cinematographer was Oliver Wood. Tyrese Gibson and  Jared Harris  joined the cast as Morbius’ mentor and an FBI agent chasing Morbius, respectively, when production began. Smith’s role as the wicked Loxias Crown was revealed . A month ago, Gibson announced that he would be playing Simon Stroud, with Al Madrigal playing his partner, Alberto Rodriguez. Justin Haythe was said to have contributed to the film’s writing at the end of the month. Shooting was set to last 12 weeks, but Venom producer Amy Pascal announced in June that the movie had “recently ended.”

Morbius 2022 Release date:

Following the films’ theatrical and home media windows, Sony inked deals with Netflix and Disney in April 2021 for the rights to their 2022 to 2026 film slate. Netflix agreed to exclusive “pay 1 window” streaming rights for future Marvel films in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which generally last 18 months. The films would be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu, as well as shown on Disney’s linear television networks, after Disney agreed to “pay 2 window” rights.
